An informal ministerial meeting of ministers responsible for competitiveness (research, internal market and industry) will be held on 16-18 July.

16-17 July: Competitiveness (Research)

On 16-17 July, EU research ministers, selected associated countries and the European Commission will gather to discuss the contribution of research and innovation to the European competitiveness, including the importance of critical technologies.

The Informal Ministerial Meeting of Research Ministers will feature two major policy discussions: On 16 July, the focus will be on the importance of critical technologies and their crucial role in boosting the European competitiveness. On July 16, the programme includes a visit to the Niels Bohr Institute followed by a reception. The day concludes with a dinner in the Ceremonial Hall at the University of Copenhagen with representatives from Danish educational and research institutions as well as other research stakeholders.

On 17 July, ministers will discuss research and innovation in the EU's upcoming Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), in particular the framework programme for research and innovation. The meeting of research ministers will conclude with a press conference.

17-18 July: Competitiveness (internal Market and Industry)

On 17-18 July, EU competitiveness ministers  and other relevant actors from the EU institutions will gather for a discussion on the theme “Building a Europe of Tomorrow - Sustainable, Innovative and Competitive”. The meeting will address issues such as developing Europe's industrial base, promoting critical technologies and accelerating innovation.

The programme for 17 July includes a visit to the Niels Bohr Institute and a reception and gala dinner at the Confederation of Danish Industry with representatives from the Danish biotech industry. 

On 18 July, the actual meeting between EU competitiveness ministers and other actors from the EU institutions takes place. Meeting participants will discuss a number of topics, including the balance between energy-intensive industries and cleantech, quantum technology, biotechnology, innovation and mobilizing private investment. In addition, a working lunch will be held to discuss Europe's future offshore wind strategy. The meeting of competitiveness ministers will conclude with a press conference.
